The Division of Information Technology provides access to a variety of software and business applications for GW students, faculty and staff. These services allow GW community members to securely access applications and content while on and off campus. 

Instructional Technology Lab

The Instructional Technology Lab (ITL) distributes Statistical Analysis System software (SAS) to GW faculty members, students, and staff for academic and research purposes.

Gartner Research Services

GW community members have access to Gartner, Inc.'s technology research and advisory tools through the myGW Portal. These services allow you access to insight on a variety of industries and technology-related services. Gartner provides leading information technology analysis and insight to more than 13,000 organizations and 85 countries around the world.

To take advantage of these resources, log in to Gartner with your GW NetID (the part of your GW email address before the "@") and corresponding password.

Microsoft Office 365

The Division of Information Technology (IT) provides Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus at no cost to all current GW students, faculty and staff. Use Office 365 to install full versions of popular Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint on up to 5 PCs or Macs (Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.6 or later required) and up to 5 mobile devices such as iPad/iPhone, Android and Windows devices. 

Microsoft Office Online is also available to create, store, share and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. In addition, 1TB of OneDrive storage is provided.

Please note: Continued access to Office 365 once your affiliation with GW ends will require a subscription to Office 365 through Microsoft.

Software Licenses

Columbian College of Arts and Science (CCAS) 
The Office of Technology Services at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences administers the Microsoft Select License Agreement and Adobe Continuing License Program for Columbian faculty and staff on behalf of the Division of IT. 

School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) 
The Computing Facility at the School of Engineering and Applied Science manages numerous network licenses, which enables faculty and students to share concurrent licenses for various applications.

SPSS

SPSS is a statistical software made by IBM. SPSS is required for a number of classes across GW's campuses; it is heavily used by the Graduate School of Education and Human Development as well as by other courses at the university. This software is provided by specific schools at GW, and the Division of Information Technology provides support for installation of SPSS software.

Business Intelligence

Business intelligence (BI) is a set of technologies, tools and processes that assist organizations and decision makers in using data to understand and analyze organizational performance. BI uses fact-based management to facilitate decisions and actions. GW's business intelligence (BI) initiative was created to work to get the right information to the right people at the right time and enable the effective use of information to support the academic and administrative initiatives necessary to drive the university forward.

Citrix

Citrix provides virtual access to various GW software applications and enterprise systems. It is designed to allow users to remotely and securely access applications and content via a web enabled device.

Applications served by Citrix include Nolij Web, the Kronos time reporting system, the Banner administrative system and Microsoft Office applications.

Data Governance

Data governance focuses on improving data quality, protecting access to data, establishing business definitions, maintaining metadata and documenting data policies. Data governance relies on the right people involved at the right time using the right data to make the right decisions. The university's institutional information is a valuable asset and must be maintained and protected as such. It is vital to have accurate, trusted data in order to make sound decisions at all levels of an organization. Data governance helps to provide data transparency and results in confidence among university faculty, staff and management to trust and rely on data for information and decision support.

The Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP) allows users to access the latest version of Microsoft Office on their home computers, and GW employees can use this program to access the safe software at home that they use at work.

Project and Portfolio Management

The project and portfolio management solution allows users to submit requests for new projects.  Users are able to describe their business needs and how their request aligns with strategic goals.  The business need, resource availability and financial information are viewable through the tool, which supports decision making.  This solution also provides the means to track project status, project issues, project documents and various analytics through reporting features and aids in delivering projects on time and within budget.

Apple has announced a vulnerability affecting iPhone 5 and later, iPad 4th generation and later, and iPod touch 6th generation and later. The vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to gain full control of the device, or access sensitive user information. The Division of Information Technology (IT) recommends that all users of the Apple devices listed above immediately update to iOS version 10.1. Apple has created a patch that will address the vulnerability.

For older devices we recommend iOS 8.4.1
