Data & Reporting
At GW, data plays a critical role in supporting strategic planning, informed decision-making, and institutional accountability.
Business Intelligence (BI) Services provides a wide range of reports, dashboards, and datasets related to GW’s academic and institutional data. The team manages a portfolio of content and maintains reporting tools, including Tableau Cloud and Microsoft Power BI. These resources support analysis, operational needs, and reporting requirements across the university.
Report Certification
All reports must undergo a certification process to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliable data insights. GW data certifiers review reports to validate alignment with institutional standards.
Report Recertification
If a certified report is modified—such as by adding or removing elements, or repurposing it (e.g., integrating it into AI applications)—recertification is required. This is because such changes may alter the report’s context, interpretation, or analytical outcomes.
In particular, the use of certified data in AI applications introduces new dimensions of analysis and interpretation. Recertification ensures that:
The data remains valid and reliable within its new use case.
Compliance with data governance and institutional standards is maintained.
The integrity of both the original and AI-generated outputs is upheld.
