SkillPort

SkillPort offers GW students, staff and faculty access to a wide range of job-readiness online courses.  SkillPort provides beginner-level to expert-level courses in consulting, business management, effective interviewing, strategic planning and Microsoft Office software among other topics.
 

Online Courses
To sign up for an online course in SkillPort, complete the following instructions:

  1. Launch your Internet browser.
  2. Visit the myGW Portal.
  3. Log in to the myGW Portal with your GW NetID and password.
  4. Select the Tools and Resources tab and scroll down to the Training Links pane.
  5. Click on the top-most training, web-based SkillPort link. (Note: the system may pause for 10-20 seconds while it logs in to SkillPort.  Follow the instructions on the screen if the pause is longer than 40 seconds.)
  6. Click on Catalog or use the Search and Learn function to select your courses.
  7. The course overview is displayed.  You have the option to Play a course, add it to your learning plan or Download it to play offline.  Some courses may also have a Mentor button or Job Aids/Skillbriefs button associated with their course topics.  These features provide additional resources and/or course content.
  8. To play a course, press the Play button to start the SkillPort player and open the course's Course Menu.
  9. To add a course to your learning plan, choose the add to your plan option.  You will have the option after doing this to set goals, due dates and reminders.  You may then proceed to start a course by clicking on the Play this course link at the bottom of the page.
     

Classroom Courses
To register for a classroom course in SkillPort, complete the following steps:

  1. Launch your Internet browser.
  2. Visit the myGW Portal.
  3. Log in to the myGW Portal with your NetID and password.
  4. Select the Tools and Resources tab and scroll down to the Training Links pane.
  5. Click on the top-most training, web-based SkillPort link. (Note: the system may pause for 10 to 20 seconds while it logs in to SkillPort.  Follow the instructions on the screen if the pause is longer than 40 seconds).
  6. Click on Catalog and select Instructor-Led Training in the list of folders that appears.
  7. Select the course you are interested in to review the sessions or to add to the My Plan section of your SkillPort site.
  8. Click on the Sessions button to review all available sessions and enroll in a course.  If the course does not have an available session or one that fits your schedule, you may put the session on your "watch list" to receive information about additional sessions as they are added.
  9. Click on the session number in which you would like to enroll.
  10. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Enroll me.
